Question: What or whom ended the Aztec empire
Claim: The Aztecs decline was due to the lack of advancement, lack of generals, and lack of knowledge.
A Spanish general named Hernán Cortes led his Spanish army to take over the land that the Aztecs used to call home. The Spanish were beat in their first battles so they went for reinforcements and then made the Aztecs really tired to make a final stand at their main capital, Tenochtitlan. The Aztecs were finally beat by the Spanish and they inherited their land and made the people their slaves.
According to Hernan Cortes wiki, "In Veracruz, he met some of the tributaries of the Aztecs and asked them to arrange a meeting with Moctezuma II, the ruler of the Aztec Empire. Montezuma II repeatedly turned down the meeting, but CortÃcs was determined. Leaving a hundred men in Veracruz, CortÃcs marched on Tenochtitlan in mid-August 1519, along with 600 soldiers, 15 horsemen, 15 cannons, and hundreds of indigenous carriers and warriors. In October 1519, CortÃcs and his men, accompanied by about 1,000 Tlaxcalteca, marched to Cholula, the second largest city in central Mexico. CortÃcs, either in a premeditated effort to instill fear upon the Aztecs waiting for him at Tenochtitlan or (as he later claimed, when he was being investigated) wishing to make an example when he feared native treachery, massacred thousands of unarmed members of the nobility gathered at the central plaza, then partially burned the city. By the time he arrived in Tenochtitlan the Spaniards had a large army. On November 8, 1519, they were peacefully received by Montezuma II. Montezuma deliberately let CortÃes enter the Aztec capital, the island city of Tenochtitlan, hoping to get to know their weaknesses better and to crush them later."
One of the last reasons that they lost was because they were less advanced. Whilst the Aztecs had leather armor and spears while the Spanish had battleships, crossbows, metal armor, and swords were better battle strategies than charging and flanking was better than that.

Compare and contrast
There are lots of similarities and differences between the Aztecs and the Macedonians with the fall of their civilizations. The Aztecs and Macedonians had lots of similarities. Such as when the Aztecs fell when their leader was killed so was the empire of Macedon. When Hernan Cortes killed Moctezuma II the Aztecs became a lot more weak and fell apart with no leader. The same thing happened in Macedon. When Alexander the great died all of his generals fought over the land and split into separate areas of land and not being one united empire which made it not Macedonia anymore. From Aztec Wiki, " After the death of Moctezuma II, the empire fell into the hands of severely weakened emperors". The same thing happened with Macedon. When Alexander the Great died his generals fought over the land and separated into different lands and Macedon was no more. There are many more differences in the contrast than the compare. The Aztecs for example were not conquering land and losing their leader. They actually were friends with the spanish before the spanish snuck in and killed their leader. Whilst the Macedonians were on conquest, whilst fighting India there leader was wounded and on the way back home he died instead of being assassinated. Both were still incredibly similar. The Aztecs are both very similar and different in many ways to the Macedonians. Their empires fell differently but the outcome was the same. Click to set custom HTML
